Yesterday in class I said something funny during a discussion and many people in the class tried to keep themselves from laughing and some even covered their mouths to keep from laughing. I am at a new school and I haven't made many friends yet, but I have already become enimies with three guys who are friends and im wondering if they are trying to ruin my reputation before I even get one. but anyway why would they stop themselves from laughing at a Funny Joke.
It wasn't me being a class clown or anything. The discussion was about a story that we heard about two boys in the woods who saw a bear and one boy paniced and the other gingerly sat down and stayed still. They then asked what we thought about that and I said "I wouldn't do either, I would just out run the guy im with and if hes faster I would just clip him and run". Then I said that "I've learned this through many years of hide and seek" then most of the class laughed and the rest (popular kids who know the 3 guys) tried to hold it in. Even the teacher laughed. The timing was perfect and how I said it made it even more funny(I know this because the kids who laughed came up and told me). I was just wonder if the 3 guys was trying to turn people against me or what.
Perhaps it was an embarrassing-type funny joke or perhaps offensive…..what was the joke? Maybe that will help people answer your question
why would people not laugh at a funny joke?

they don't want you to know that they like your joke …. if everyone in the class did that than it probably means they don't want to look like fools …. some people think that laughing is a way of making yourself look foolish …. which means they are stupid so don't think about them because they probably have lame lives anyways ….

humour is discretionary, and depending on what you said they might well have been trying NOT to laugh AT you………try not to be the class clown as at best it is irritating and at worse is really a p[isser when you are trying to teach all the rest of them

Well I say, make a joke about the three guys getten some of each other in the locker room!! HA!!
Then you tell a few people that you were in the "it" crowd of your other school. Tell them that everyone wants you back..
If you a dude, then tell a few guys that you have been with some truly hot chicks!! If you a girl then you are dating the star football player!!
I think that as long as you do not get carried away it might work, however you need the sawger to pull of any thing you are going to say!!
Good luck@ ur new school

What Totally American said. Except for the last part:
you shouldn't ignore them just because the tried to
keep themselves from laughing at your joke.
If they're people who you had reason enough to think
like you, then there will be time after class to talk to
them.
Just be subtle. (Talk about something else. Anything
else.) When you're trying to make friends, you should
present yourself in a way that they can see the real
you; but don't come on too strong.
And relax.
